Publishing experience

After graduated in MA Children’s Literature: Children’s Book Illustration from Goldsimth, University of London, I have worked in Yan Chang Company for 3 years. I work as editor and rights manager in our team.
My main responsibilities are to assist our local authors and illustrators in publishing their work and to discover excellent books from publishers all over the world. I am proud that our fairy tales “Once Upon a Time, There was a Story” written by Long Xiangmei and illustrated by Monica Liaw, has won the 34th The Chen Bochui International Children’s Literature Award (CICLA).
I have helped to sold foreign langusge rights of 9 picture books this year. I am passionate about picture books and I believe selling rights is all about knowing which illustrations and genre of books suit which markets and finding the right publisher for the right book.
I hope to help more authors, illustrators and publishers all over the world connect each other and discovering excellent books.
In addition, I am also an illustrator and picture book creator myself, and I have made some picture books. I hope to have opportunities to publish my own works in the future.

Experience related to this year’s topic

As an children’s book editor and rights manager, I know that AI will influence us in many aspects such as acquisitions and editorial, production, distribution and advertising, etc. It will bring us both benefits and challenges.
The aspect I’m most interested in is marketing and discovery. It maybe the most powerful facet of AI’s foray into book publishing. AI can help publishers produce engaging and personalized content for our target reader, such as ads and videos. AI can help publishers understand reader needs, preferences and behavior, and tailor our marketing campaigns accordingly.
The social platforms with Recommendations AI are helping us do our marketing job. We have accounts on some different social platforms such as
instagram, wechat and Xiaohongshu (Little Red Book). We haven’t had the chance to use Booktok on Tiktok, but we hope we could open an account in the future. I have started do marketing works for our books and activities recently. I’m a book influencer on the social platform Xiaohongshu (Little Red Book) and have 3361 followers now.
